Owning a house is something kind of a dream everyone wants to turn into reality. But in India for millions of people this dream remains just a dream to all their life. Innumerable poor people live under the pathetic conditions in the urban slums mushrooming in every city. Making the situation more horrible there is large number of population exist in India that is too vulnerable to arrange a shelter for themselves against rains, storms, cold and other harsh exposures. Shamshad, a physically challenged person who also takes care of his paralyzed parents, also had to face the above narrated harsh realities until most luckiest day of his life gifted him a piece of land and promise of a house on it for him. Shamshad has been among one of the 24 other fortunate individuals those who got the precious gift of a piece of land, on 10th June, 2017.
What you have just read above is not a piece from some fairytale story but a reality actually happened in Irinjalakuda, a municipal town in state of Kerala. This miracle wouldn’t have been possible if a highly diligent team of RSS hadn’t worked for it day and night to make the society a better place to less privileged.
It all started when a team of Sevabharati Irinjalakuda, affiliated to Akhil Bhartiya Sevabharti, approached an affluent businessman Peedikkattuparmbil Sundaran for securing some donation. But for everyone's astonishment he expressed his wish to distribute his 21777 sq.ft of land having a market value of Rs.75lakhs to physically challenged individuals from the marginalized section of society. From this very point it all picked up the momentum. After coming to know Sundaram Ji’s unparallel gesture for the empowerment of less privileged people, Vanaja Andavan, a widow from Muriyad Panchayath, also came forward to donate her inherited 19600 sq.ft land with an estimated value of Rs.48.00 lakhs to distribute among the needy.
“Taking this crucial task as a challenge Sevabharathi Irinjalakuda identified 24 families from the economically weaker section to allot the equally demarked plots” shares P. Haridas, Secretary at Sevabharathi Irinjalakuda, adding that on 10th June 2017, in the presence of donors Malyalam cine actor and Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Gopi distributed the title deeds of 3.10 cents(1348 Sq.ft) land to each of these twenty four eligible allotees with a rider that gifted plots cannot be transferred or sold to a third party for the next ten years.
Having a very humble beginning in 2007 with daily distribution of food to the needy at Government Taluk Hospital, currently Seva Bharathi Irinjalakuda, under the able guidance of its visionary founders P. Haridas, P.M Shankaran and A.S. Satheesan and Vijayakumar, successfully managing Sangameshwara Vanaprasthashramam – an old age home for senior citizens, Swashraya Nilayam – a day care centre for people with mental disabilities, round the clock ambulance service and freezer service.
With its unquenchable thrust to serve the lesser fortunate; now Sevabharathi Irinjalakuda have started working on its new mission of procuring funds to construct the economical houses on these 24 plots gifted to people of weaker section of society. “A highly motivated team of swaymsevaks leaving no stone unturned whether in the government sector, corporate segment and people with individual capacities to procure funds to get the building constructed on these plots”, shares P.Haridas.
