Though her age is more than 62 years but she says January 26, 2003….. Is her Birthday!! You might think she is having some problem with her math that’s why despite the fact being in sixties she is claiming such a date that practically can’t be her date of birth but this is not the case at all. She is perfectly sound with mind and her math skill are pretty fine, meet Vimla Kumawat, above 62, who insists January 26, 2003 is to be her Birthday ........ Or Day of reincarnation- A kind of New Birth.

In fact like many oldies, she does not even remember her actual date of birth.  But the day, when for the first time with the inspiration of Dhanaprakash Tyagi, a  Senior RSS Pracharak; she brought 5 children to her place from the Valmiki slum near her home in Jaipur, is something which has left a lifelong imprint on her mind and soul and that day was January 26, 2003- A day which changed her life forever.  She decided to teach these children who used to collect wastage plastic bags for their livelihood. That time at 48 years of age, Vimla Ji, who herself studied just up to 8th standard and had a big family of three Sons, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren. She decided to adorn the lives of these unprivileged children.

Some of the money that these children used to earn from trash picking spent in doping and consuming alcohol by them and rest of the portion of it went to their families for other expenses. The habitat of the slum of scavenger was bad, fierce mess surrounding the settlement. The children used to live in a small cottage and between the pigs. Moreover, the parents were addicted to some or the other form of intoxication and they were least concerned about the education of their children. In this unfortunate situation, Vimla Ji came to their rescue like a divine entity. Within first three years, with the help of Sewa Bharati, the class running in Vimla Ji's house gradually turned into a Sewa Bharati Bal Vidyalaya. Now a day’s more than 400 children are studying in this school. Let's meet, Shivani, who is in class 9th now. This child has not forgotten the day when Vimla Ji brought her to hostel along with her younger sister. After the death of her parents, both the sisters were living with their Tai-and Tau (Uncle & Aunt) along with their 4 children in a small suffocating cottage. In the beginning Shivani was stubborn to come to hostel with her younger sister, who was badly wounded with worms in the lesion. Shivani also created so much of fuss because she didn’t want to go to the hostel. Last year, after securing 62% marks in 10th standard, Shivani, with her eyes full of tears of joy and gratitude embraced Vimla Ji, whom She consider her Grand Mother now. She also has written a beautiful poem dedicated to Vimla ji.

Now let us talk about Lokesh Koli, who is a student of B.Com first year. While doing his studies Lokesh also teaches in the same Sewa Bharati Bal Vidyalaya. He is also a very promising flute player. He was a small boy of 8 years, when Vimla Ji brought him to the school against his wishes. He was eldest son among 3 children of a widowed mother. In an another extraordinary step Vimla Ji, at the age of  52, decided to again appear in the examination of 8th standard to teach Laxmi, a student of 8th Sandard. Now Laxmi is in B.A 2nd Year. We can find many such unrepresented stories here at this Sewa Bharati Bal Vidyalaya run by Vimla Ji.

The work which is being carried out by Vimla Ji has been much more difficult than what it appeared to be. Firstly the parents of these children were not ready to send them to School, because these children were their earning hands. Money meant more than children's education for their Parents. After long and tedious persuasion they eventually agreed on the condition that they would spare the children only for four hours for study and rest of the time they would do their usual job of collecting plastic from the garbage.

After reaching to the strength of 100 children, with the help of Seva Bharati, this school shifted in a tent of tarpaulin. Along with the studies Vimla Ji also used to teach the children the shlokas from Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and  Bal Ramayana Bhajan etc. when it comes to extra curriculum studies these children also studied Harmonium, Dholak, Manjeera and as per their aptitude they also got training in sewing, embroidery  during summer vacations.

On the occasion of Hindu Spiritual Mela in Jaipur  Dhan Prakash Ji got emotional and his eyes filled with tears of Joy when these Children presented melodious musical stage performance of Bal Ramayana. These talented children proudly display many trophies and shields they won in the event.

Today, the School is being run in a two story building located in Sharda enclave. The entire expenditure of 325 children studying in this school is being supported by the various sections of the common society. Vimla Ji, now lives here away from her own family, with these children to ensure their hurdle free studies. She also accompanies these children, especially the girls, for examinations centers of competitive exams such as S.S.C, Banking etc. Now a branch of this Seva Bharati Vidyalaya (School), also in operation under tarpaulin tents in Buxawal in Sanganer district having strength of 155 students ?
