Ambrish Pathak | Arunachal Pradesh
Surroundings were indeed picturesque- Snow covered White Mountains; crystal clear waterfalls coming out of hilly terrains, cloudy blue sky and all that nature could offer to mesmerize the human senses was at its peak. Totally engrossed in these beautiful sites, Rajesh Ji, a RSS pracharak, realized with a gentle tap on his shoulder by bus conductor that his destination Bomdila, located about 56 km away from Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, at the Indo-China border 8000 ft above the sea level is right there.
On his very first visit to Arunachal Pradesh's Bomdila region, when Rajesh Ji stepped out the bus, several dozen mixed crowd of young boys and girls gathered in small groups arrested his attention. Frustration was so visible on their faces, even some of the girls among them were literally looking like crying. Actually, these all were the students and scored too less to be got passed in Math. Surprisingly 300 students got failed alone in Bomdila village only. But more pathetic than this was the collective decision of all these students to quit their studies forever, which made Rajeshji really worried and simultaneously compelled him to brainstorm on something that could keep the study rhythm of these youth intact.
Coming to know the fact that well-qualified mathematics teaching staff in the region was lacking, the Arunachal Pradesh chapter of Sewa Bharti crafted a unique idea to vaporize the math phobia. 70 days special Math Crush course was designed to cover the entire syllabus. In 2010, a highly motivated team of swaymsevaks landed in the region to teach mathematics in such an interesting manner that the weakest student could also grasp. Slowly and gradually not only did the mathematical skills of the students improve but so far a total of 8000 students scoring impressive grades in intermediate have now proceeded to higher education. Many of them doing so well in life and occupying high offices.
For those who belong to plains, it is quite hard to imagine the cumbersome life in hilly regions, especially in northeastern India. In bone freezing low temperature, life is not a luxury here but a battle against all the odds of ruthless nature. Though the government established schools for these people irony was neither teachers nor students were ever proved so punctual. In such odd circumstances, Sewa Bharti vowed not only to educate the youth of this region but to transform them into a responsible and patriotic citizen. Seven years back, when a service prospective youth with a degree in B.tech taking 40 days break from his office, who came to Bomdila from Pune to conduct the mathematics crush course, had no idea that it is gonna be his full-time work to the rest of his life. In 2010, he left his highly paid job and threw himself completely into this cause. Now every year he camps in 5 to 7 villages to teach mathematics. Several other techies too have joined him in this mission and regularly come to Arunachal Pradesh for the period of 6 months every year to teach the students. Among them, Harshada, an architect, from Pune, Radhika, a biomedical engineer and Sneha, an M.sc degree holder, are the few individuals who really have done a commendable job.
Responding to the call of Sewa Bharti, many qualified young people also joined in and providing English Grammar and UPSC coaching here at many centres. Furthermore, top-notch people from various fields pay regular visits here to provide career counselling to the students. With the cooperation of organizations such as Gyan Prabodhni Sanstha approx 450 highly qualified Techies keep visiting here to demonstrate various scientific experiments to make the localities more technologically updated and aware.
