Just as a rainbow holds different colours together, the Surman family raises children who are talented in different domains together. Pooja is a gold-Medallist in Kung Fu, Whereas Rahul, Aman and Guddu are recognized Kabaddi players. In spite of different sports styles, what is common among them is their home-Surman. Being established in the pink city of Jaipur, this organization has returned many children’s smiles back to them. Sangh Swayamsevak Surendra Chaturvedi and his wife Manan initiated this project in 1998 with just 2 kids. Today the Surman family is as big as 110 children and 8 Women.

Let’s praise Manna’s story before understanding Surman. After topping the fashion designing course, Manan was all set to step in the glamorous, ‘larger thanlife’ world. She was offered to work with renowned fashion houses of US and London.

When she gets married to a sensitive journalist and a swayamsevak Surendra Chaturvedi, she got herself thinking on society, nation and how we should contribute in the well-being of both. Meanwhile she met an injured child-Gauri. When after the first aid, she took Gauri back to her house she was encountered with the fact that Gauris mother herself got her child injured by drugging her so she could beg for money. Manan felt upset on seeing the dreadful condition over there.

She dropped the plan of moving to London and began re-designing these children’s lives. Financial difficulties arose when children grew up. But she crossed this tough road and earned finances through painting, writing and theatre. She conducted painting shows continuous for 24 hours.  After the formal registration in 2000, societal good forces also began contributing to the organization. Started as a children’s home, the organization later became a shelter for divorce and single ladies too. 78 Bright but disadvantaged students are given scholarships by this organization. Once worked as a speaker of Panchajanya Rajasthan, SurendraJi has engrossed himself totally for Surman. Surman has thoroughly absorbed the Sangha system through Yog, Sanskaras, discipline and patriotism.

The children, along with academics learn painting, Music, Theatre, Singing, accordingly to their choices. Kids from Surman present a musical Ramayana in a festiva lof Dhanteras organized every year in the Chitrakut museum of Jaipur. Their creation’s i.e. - Stories, poetry are published in the magazine named ‘Boganveliya’.  The government has donated a larger piece of land for the new and bigger establishment of Surman, Narendra Shekhawat JI, Who once was just a visitor is now working full time for Surman. He says that-Surman is not merely a shelter home; it is a family- Manan and surendraJi’s three children stay with these kids.

Manan Chaturvedi is a president of Commission for protection of child rights, Rajasthan unit and is thinking about the future of children from the entire territory.
