Sulochana-A pregnant women who was fired from work for her urge to eat a roti as a necessity for her pregnancy. Poverty was a constant partner and that made her wander here and there for employment. But the fate follows her orders now. She runs a wholesale agency located right in the main market of Solapur. Named as “Ganesh Marketing”, she has established a business which crosses millions per year.
Alpana who was once trained in papad making is now an emerging entrepreneur and employs about 500 women. Vaishnavi who struggled to earn a single penny is now an owner of a trendy fashion boutique. In order to create employment opportunity for women who strive to gain even the basic needs, udyogvardhini was established in 2004 in the city of Solpaur, Maharashtra. National trustee of Rashtriya Seva Bharti , ChandrikaChauhan brought together 600 self-help groups and made employment available for more than 10000 women. Wife’s of former Sangha pracharak Sambhu Singh Chauhan, Chandrikaji learned from her own past struggle and contributed the good work back to the society in multiples. Udyogvardhini is awarded to be the best women entrepreneurship program.
Bhakri- A thick roti made of sorghum (Jawar) and a chatni made of groundnuts is one of the most favourite dishes in Maharashtra. Udyogvardhini has turned it into a brand. Around 800 women are associated with these roti and chatnimaking project. Moreover, People in old aged homes and patients are provided with the most hygienic meal in just 1 and half rupee. Sewing, tailoring, catering, pottery, making spices, sewing bags from old and unused cloths, cooking different festival special snack items are some of udyogvardhini projects. Women who work here are associated with different self-helped groups.
Many of them have learned to earn while being at home and even market their products. Sulochana used to do the household work of many homes. When she joined Udyogvardhini, Chandrika Ji inspired her to sell blades which are used in hair cutting salons. The organisation guided her on every step and as a result she opened shop of necessary salon items. Today, it has become a well set wholesale agency in Solapur. Sulochana is a head of Udyogvardhini’s marketing team.
Chandrika Ji was a simple housewife when she moved from Ahmedabad to Solapur. She continued living the same life until the financial problems arose because of the open heart surgery of her husband. She then started tailoring to become financially sound. Dr Kukade who was a sanghachalak at that time, inspired her to use her knowledge to make more women financially self dependent. This journey was started in a small house of Ghotrekar colony in Solapur and now has reached tremendous success. Udyogvardhini has its own roti making unit which makes about 5000 rotis a day. These rotis are sent to the schools and hospitals in the city.
Its kitchen cooks for about 2000 people per day and enables women to earn while working from home. About 2 quintals of groundnuts chutney is made per month. Their snack items are popular even outside country. The organisation also markets the products made by visually challenged kids.Sensitivity towards the society is the theme of Udyogvardhini. It offers not just employment, but a sense of responsibility towards our culture, society, and nation. A member of Sangha’s national Sewa team and senior pracharak, Uday Jogalekar Ji tells that Udyogvardhini’s success has made them lead and develop a ‘vaibhav shree’ programme which is being executed for women empowerment by Sewa Bharati. Chandrika ji is training thousands of women from different regions to become financially independent and live a good life.
