Bad marriage followed by a tragic divorce is enough to shatter the life of any woman. Besides this, if someone is orphan too, you can easily imagine the magnitude of such tragedy. But Sunita (Identity Changed) despite being an orphan not only faced this turmoil with sheer courage but also came out of this as more stronger person. However, it wouldn't have been that easy, if her unique family- Abalashram, run by swyamsewaks of RSS-- were not there to stand by her side steadily. Now, blessed with a girl child, Sunita lives in USA and happily married with a young priest of a renowned Hindu temple there. Located in Basvangudi area of Banglore in the state of Karnataka, over the period of time, Abalashram has emerged as a prime protector of helpless women in the region.

Whether it has been divorce turned Sunita or a rape victim Manisha (Identity Changed)and countless others Abalashram proved a kind of support system that transformed their lives in such a way that was beyond imagination. Under severe depression when brought to Abalashram, Manisha, an unfortunate teenage girl, was raped and pregnant too. She was so critical and unresponsive to everything. Initially she showed no sign of progress but as the time went with genuine sympathy and care she received here Manisha gradually gained her tranquility back. Now, one can find her at Abalashram, as an energetic diligent staffer, assisting in reshaping the lives of other women in need.

"In 1905, a passionate follower of Arya Samaj, Late Shri. Chakarvarthy Venkatavarada Iyengar laid the foundation of Abalashram with the sole aim to emancipate the abandoned women and orphan girls", shares B.V Shesha Ji, Secretary Abalashram Managing Committee and Sanghchalak of Basvangudi Nagar, adding late Shri Iyengar Ji himself marry a childhood widow to set an example in the orthodox society of that time. Begun from the small house of late. Shri Iyengar as a small social venture, now Abalashram has turned into such a big organization that is empowering the helpless women in a never before way.

What makes Abalashram diffrent from the other social organizations is it's distinctive feature of age restriction for admission. "Looking after the small girls is comparatively easy, therefore number of organizations working in this bracket, but when a girl touches 16th year of her age, things get bit complexed for such organizations and this is the very point where Abalashram comes forward to take the responsibility of these grown up girls", tells Sh. B V Shesha

Today many vocational training programs are being conducted at Abalashram carved out on the ethics of Suraksha, Swalamban, Sauharda, Sanskiriti, Sahaayata, Swabhiman, Sewasuman, Surabhi, Subodh, Sambandh, Samanvaya, Sabala, Shubham and Samman. Indeed ABALASHRAM has become a synonyms to women empowerment in Karnataka. Got inspired with the patriotic and high moral values received at Abalashram many women from here volunteered to serve in the tribal areas. Daughters of Aablaashram engraved such a high niche for them in the society that even the elite families keep queuing up at Abalashram to have them as a bride
