Sewa for the eternal Bharat!

Sometimes the pain expresses itself in more than one way! Such is the story of Kalpana Vishwakarma, who rents a house in the high-class area called Arora Colony of Bhopal. When the pregnant Kalpana herself was suffering from gangrene in one leg, this global pandemic brought countless other hardships upon her. There was her father-in-law, Dwarka Prasad Vishwakarma, struggling with life due to corona. And on the other hand, her husband, who was a rickshaw driver, lost his job because of the complete inactivity of people. Kalpana herself was carrying a child. It was becoming difficult day by day to look after the monetary needs of the family! Then came a moment when Sewa Bharati Mahanagar Mahila Sanyojika of Bhopal, Aabha didi got to know about Kalpana and her misfortune. She and other Sewa Bharati karyakartas of Bhopal took an oath to take care of everything the family needs! They offered every medical help to Kalpana’s father-in-law, but when he could not live, the karyakartas respectfully performed all the rituals too! Sewa Bharati volunteers also provided ration and nutritious food to pregnant Kalpana and her family.

The corona pandemic brought unimaginable difficulties to many lives. One more such story is of Jyoti. Staying in the Badh Colony of Indore, Jyoti has an 8-year-old daughter who was suffering from cancer. Jyoti was working as a sweeper in many houses, whereas her husband used to drive a rickshaw. The lockdown forced both of them to lose their jobs. It became difficult to earn even the food. Treating their beloved daughter was the thing beyond imagination. Then they found about the Sewa Bharati helpline. Prant Sanyojika Sunita didi still remembers Jyoti’s heartfelt cries when she asked for ration. Volunteers of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha not only provided ration to this family, but also stood by their every need until the lockdown was over!

“Main rahoon na rahoon, Bharat yeh rehana chahiye!” are the lines perfectly express the work of Sangha Karyakartas in our country. Ashish ji’s story makes the lines true. Ashish ji was working restlessly during the pandemic with the only thought of serving people. When he himself got positive, he was admitted to the Kushabhau Thakare Hospital in Rewa. Ashish ji was struggling with his life. But as soon as he got to know about a serious patient who could not get an oxygen cylinder, he immediately gave up his cylinder for the patient. Such is the courage; such is the sensitivity of our karyakartas! Ashish ji offered his oxygen cylinder to the person and kept breathing with camphor for about 3 hours. Now both, himself and the other lady patient are fit and well. 

The karyavah of Madhya Kshetra, Ashok ji Agrawal, says that in the entire region, karyakartas of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha stood by the needs of the society. Along with 589 helpline centres, 123 isolation centres, 17 covid care centres, the RSS supplied 40,624 food packets from 649 centres to different areas. In all these sewa projects, around 11077 karyakartas offered their service!

One of such success stories belongs to the town Panched. Here, the swayamsevaks set the record by vaccinating the town fully. When the death toll of Panched went beyond 30, the young swayamsevaks took an oath to remove corona from the village altogether. First, they sealed the entire village so that nobody could come in with the infection. Later, the karyakartas paid visits from house to house to register the people who were eligible for vaccination and then vaccinated them one by one to complete the 100%.

This second wave of corona did not even spare the most remote places like forest areas. Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh witnessed a unique project to stop corona. Vibhag Sewa Pramukh of Khandwa district, Atul ji Shah reported that, hardly anyone from the tribal areas was ready to get tested or to visit the hospital. Cold, cough and fever were taking toll of the area, as a result the number of deaths were increasing. In these times, the senior doctors of the renowned Gokuldas hospital in Indore trained other village doctors with covid testing so that they can conduct extensive testing in the village itself. The hospital also made the primary medicines available in the tribal areas. The local doctrors’ team reached Gudi, Singot, Borgaon, Gulai Mal, Roshni, Patajan, Jhinjhari, Golkheda, Jhummarkhali and other neighbouring villages through 14 OPDs. This effort has saved the lives of hundreds of tribal people.
