Veer Savarkar Mandal transformed Shive Village miraculously

When it was difficult for Baban Dagdu, a poor potter, to make pottery and make his ends meet in the city, he returned to his village Shive and started farming in his small field. Suddenly destiny turned everything just like a spin of coin, his 40 quintal crop caught fire after five months of sweat and blood. The horrific news struck him like a bolt of lightning. Fortunately, youth from Veer Savarkar Mandal of this village came forward to the succour of hapless Dagdu. These volunteers gathered 25 quintals of grain and cash of Rs 20,000 from the village just to help him in his toughest time. This group of Sangh volunteers stands by the poor farmers of this small village in Khed Tehsil, Pune through their thick and thin. 

Shankar Tulsiram Satpute never forgets in his dreams even, that fateful day when his house burned down to ashes, then these young energetic Swayamsewak not only collected Rs 1,75,000 but also reconstructed a shelter for his family in the form of sweet home. This is just an example amongst many other sewa-projects being run in this village, be it Ramchandra Gadde Smriti Library or the free computer classes running in the same building. For the overall development of the village, the village development committee along with Veer Savarkar Mandal is steering work in education, health and social areas in the right direction.

In 2000, under the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's campaign for national awakening, the Swayamsevaks of Sangh reached Shive. Due to efforts of the current province and village development chief, Shri Ramesh Kobal and his associates, weekly Shakha is now running here. The founder of Savarkar Mandal, Shri Rohidas Gadde, explains with gratitude in his voice that winds of change have flown in this village due to the efforts of Swayamsevaks churned out of the Shakha. The five-day lecture series, which has been running for a period of 18 years now has awakened nationalism in the residents of Shive. The poor families of this village do not have to spend a single rupee for their daughters’ marriages, only because, every year the Mandal organizes mass marriages for these underprivileged girls. So far, the marriage of daughters of more than 400 poor families has been possible through this program.

In Shive, people no longer have to borrow from usurers for their petty needs. Furthermore, Ramesh Kobal ji informs that there are self-help groups for men and women running in this village and proving very beneficial. In a time of need, money at 1% interest could be borrowed from this group. Shri Ramgir Baba educational institution runs Gyanandeep school here so that the children of this village can avail of education at par with that of the city. Veer Savarkar Mandal plays the main role of running this school smoothly. Counseling classes which are running continuously in Ramachandra Gadde Smriti Vachanalaya, a discussion center to prepare these children for competitive examinations to get government jobs are resulting very good. The computer center running in this building is center of attraction because even students of the government school of the village comes here to learn computers. More than 15,000 books available in the reading room are a never-ending repository of education and precious gift for upcoming generations.
